The ongoing Char Dham Yatra has been significantly affected by adverse weather conditions. Heavy rainfall has resulted in debris accumulation on the highways, hindering travel for pilgrims. In particular, the Gangotri-Badrinath Highway has been closed, leaving numerous travelers stranded. Moreover, the aftermath of the rain has caused landslides that have forced the closure of 184 routes in Uttarakhand.
As a consequence of these circumstances, a total of 339 state roads have been shut down. Efforts are currently underway to reopen 10 state highways, but it remains an ongoing process. DK Yadav, the department head of Lonivi, has deployed 257 pieces of equipment to clear the blocked roads. However, the road closures persist, causing significant inconvenience for stranded passengers.
The commuters in Uttarkashi are grappling with incessant rain, which has had a detrimental impact on the trek to Gangotri and Yamunotri dhams due to highway closures. The shutdown of the Gangotri Highway has resulted in a two-day delay in travel to Gangotri Dham. Authorities have arranged for passengers to be stationed at safe locations, including the district headquarters, due to the closure of the Gangotri Highway at five different points.
Pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, and Madhya Pradesh en route to Gangotri-Yamunotri, Badrinath, and Kedarnath Dham have been stranded as a result of these road closures. It is advisable for travelers to consult Uttarakhand’s weather forecasts before embarking on the Char Dham Yatra to stay informed about the prevailing conditions.
